Fruitful Vine Focus: Marijuana Part 4

This week’s focus is marijuana and the impact of recreational use particularly by individuals that are under the age of 25.

In 1972, Duke University started to study the impact of marijuana. They gave neurological tests, including an IQ test to 13-year-old teens. They tested them again at age 18, 21, 26, 32, and 38. Those who smoked pot had an overall drop in their IQ by an average of 6 to 8 points. Most importantly, when those individuals stopped smoking pot, they did not regain that intelligence. The average IQ is 100. Therefore, smoking pot is literally like throwing 6-8% of your brain in the trash.

There is a direct correlation between IQ and income. The average IQ for a person that is homeless is 83. The average IQ for someone who receives welfare benefits is 92. Individuals in the middle class of America have an average IQ of 97 to 98. Self-made millionaires and self-made decamillionaires, which is individuals have a net worth of more than 10 million dollars, have an IQ average of 118. Self-made billionaires have an average IQ of 133, and self-made decabillionares have an IQ of 151. Over the course of a lifetime, throwing away 6-8% of your brain could also facilitate the loss of a fortune.
