Fruitful Vine Focus: Psalm 128:3 Part 2

Yesterday we looked at the first part of verse 3 in Psalm 128. The second part of that verse states the following:

“Your children are like olive shoots around your table.”

An olive tree will grow for about 500 years, and then the tree above ground begins to die. However, the root system continues to grow. It is easy to tell when this is happening because little twigs or “shoots” begin to grow out of the trunk of the tree. When someone cuts down the dead part of the tree, those shoots become the next generation of branches, and the tree continues to live.

Historically, the dining table has been a place for family members to connect, to share the joys and struggles of life, and to feel a sense of belonging. Today, family meals are becoming something of the past. When families are able to share a meal, they are often meals are interrupted with cell phones, television programs, or video games. Do not miss the opportunity to check in with your family members, and ensure they experience the love, support, and encouragement they need. As Psalm 128 states, they are the next generation.
