This is Rev. David Morrow. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I have your Fruitful Vine Focus.
In Psalms 128 there is a word picture that illustrates God’s purpose for the family. Remember that women and children were not allowed into the worship services at that time. So, a bunch of men, who lived in a very agricultural society, were sitting around talking. Let’s focus on verse 3.
“Your wife is like a fruitful vine within your house, and your children are like olive shoots around your table.”
As a farmer, if you know you have a fruitful vine growing inside your house, and all you have to do is pick and enjoy the fruit, you will see that vine as a wonderful resource. You also will be sure to understand the needs of that vine. How much water, sunlight, and fertilizer does it need.
Think for a moment about your spouse. If you do your best to create the environment in which your spouse can grow and become all God created her or him to be, then your spouse will most likely produce fruit that is designed specifically for you.
